Lately, I’ve been thinking less about what to add … and more about what needs protecting.

Time.
Energy.
Presence.

These aren’t things we lose all at once. They wear down quietly when we don’t notice how often we’re giving them away.

I’ve also been reminded that every yes carries something with it. Even when it’s a good yes. Even when it’s something I care deeply about.

There’s always a trade being made … whether we name it or not.

Right now, I’m trying to protect the moments that don’t announce themselves as important.

Conversations that don’t feel efficient, but are clearly valuable for reasons I may not see right away.
Time spent that doesn’t have a clear outcome, but was necessary for deeper reasons.

Protecting them not because they can teach me something.
But because they’re about paying attention for more meaningful reasons.

Will this be my new norm … probably not. But I will gain something valuable that becomes part of who I am … paying attention to what matters in important parts of my life.

And I’m learning that choosing carefully what to protect … shifts something more important more often when I make that choice.
