I’ve had two powerful and unexpected conversations recently.

Each was with a daughter… on separate occasions.

And while I thought I knew how each conversation would go, since I was the one doing the interviewing, I found myself taking notes I hadn’t intended to take.

What was supposed to be a 10-minute conversation became more than an hour each time.

The general theme was simple:

What changes when life turns a corner?

Sometimes the shift is obvious.

A new role.
A wedding.
A chapter of life coming to an end for good reasons because the next one is beginning to grow.
A new responsibility taking shape.

And sometimes it happens more quietly.

Our priorities begin to rearrange themselves.

The things we say “I will…” to begin sounding different.

And maybe most importantly, we begin to ask:

What about who I am today is worth protecting as life continues to unfold?

I asked that question of them… but it turned into real reflection for me as well.

Because growth should not come at the expense of the best parts of who we already are.

If you have 9 minutes today, I’d love for you to listen.

These conversations are part of the Life At Our Best podcast that I host. Here’s the link to episode 5

My hope is that it gives you one quiet question to carry into your week:

What are you building…
and what deserves protection as life turns the next corner?

My best to you,
~dom
